Freestanding

A standalone appliance with its own outer casing and visible front. A washing machine or dishwasher under a worktop can still be freestanding.

Built-in / integrated

An appliance designed to fit into your kitchen units. Integrated dishwashers and fridges often have a matching cupboard door attached. Built-in ovens sit inside a cabinet with their front visible.

Under a worktop doesn’t automatically mean built-in. You don’t need to pull the appliance out to check.
