The repair guide
If your dryer has stopped heating, turning or drying efficiently, arrange a visit for vented, condenser and heat-pump models throughout Birmingham and the wider West Midlands area.
Belts, motors, sensors, airflow restrictions and heating systems can cause similar behaviour. Clean user-accessible filters according to the manual, but stop using a dryer that smells hot, scrapes or trips the electrics.
Heat-pump and condenser dryers are common in newer flats and conversions across the city centre, Edgbaston and Solihull, while vented models are more typical in older terraced homes with a suitable outside wall available.
Compact dryers stacked in utility cupboards can be awkward to reach, so mention access and confirm where the machine sits when the appointment is arranged. In larger detached homes around Sutton Coldfield a separate laundry or utility room can give the engineer more space to work.
After diagnosis, the engineer explains the cause and repair value. Model-specific parts are quoted separately and require approval before fitting.
If a dryer is old, the drum has gone or recurring faults point to the sealed unit, replacement is often the more sensible route, and the engineer will say so plainly rather than keep a failing machine going with short-term fixes.
What’s it doing?
One symptom can have several causes. The engineer tests before recommending a part, so you only pay for what’s actually needed.
Fault-finding chart Tumble dryer
| Symptom | What it usually comes down to | Before we arrive |
|---|---|---|
| Not heating | A failed heater, thermostat or thermal fuse, often after the airflow has been restricted by fluff. | Clean the fluff filter and empty the water tank or check the vent hose before calling. |
| Drum not turning | A snapped drum belt, worn rollers or jockey pulley, the motor or a faulty door switch. | Press start and listen. Tell us whether it hums, clicks or does nothing at all. |
| Taking too long | A clogged filter, condenser or vent hose, or a heater, thermostat or moisture-sensor fault. | Clean the filters and condenser unit, then try one normal load before booking. |
Not on the chart? Not every fault fits a label. Strange noises, burning smells, tripped electrics and error codes all point the engineer somewhere. Write down what happens and when. The repair desk checks it’s a job we can take on before booking you in.

If a part is needed, the engineer explains which one and what it costs. Nothing is fitted until you agree.
If age, condition or the total cost means a new tumble dryer makes more sense, you’ll hear it before any parts are ordered.

The fixed labour quote is shown online before booking and covers the diagnosis and repair. Any belt, motor, heater or sensor replacement is quoted separately and fitted only with your approval.
Slow drying usually comes from a blocked airflow path, a faulty heater or a failing sensor on condenser and heat-pump models. The engineer can identify the cause and tell you whether repair or replacement makes more sense.
Suitability depends on the model, installation and fault. Share the exact model and whether the dryer is vented, condenser or heat-pump when requesting a visit so the team can confirm coverage before attendance.
